The Herbs
The arrival of Barry Lloyd heralded a new chapter. Dave and Ian had begun writing songs both independently and together. Barry too was an accomplished song writer. They renamed the band 'The Herbs' and set about performing their own songs in preparation for the recording of their first album. 'These Are The Days My Friend' was a collection of catchy, tuneful pop songs with a hint of the psychedelic and contained some of the strongest four part harmonies in use on the Liverpool music scene – something for which The Herbs were becoming very well known.

Liverpool songwriter and promoter Gerry Murphy said “It’s the strongest debut by a band I’ve heard in years.”
Daves’ song 'Jane' was frequently used by The John Moores University and The Liverpool School Of Performing Arts (LIPA) their song writing classes.

The Herbs live
Despite support from press and local radio the album sold very few copies. It did, however, allow The Herbs to play higher profile venues including 'The Casbah Club', 'The Krazy House', and numerous appearances at the famous 'Cavern'. The band were also booked to play at 'The John Lennon Tribute' marking the 10th anniversary of his death.

The Herbs follow up album was 'Watching The World' which showed the band experimenting with sounds and special effects taking the songs into another direction. Tracks such as 'Before Your Eyes' and the epic 'Lazy Daze' became firm live favourites.

In 1995 Barry Lloyd left the band to pursue his own projects. Dave, Ian, and Mal continued but, as before, the musical style was changing and developing. They decided that The Herbs chapter should close. A change of name, image, and the desire for a new direction produced 'The Green Room'.
