Dave, Ian,
and Mal spent the next few months in the rehearsal studio. In order
to try to clear their heads and find some new inspiration, they recorded
'Cover To Cover' a mini album of cover versions with songs by
artists they each admired. |
| The Green Room continued to perform live but it was clear that they were running out of ideas and steam. Eventually Dave Laing quit. Ian and Mal recruited another guitarist, Phil Melia. They were putting together a covers set retaining the 'Green Room' name. In order to fill out the live sound, Dave was persuaded to rejoin. The Green Room became one of the finest and most popular cover bands on the Liverpool music scene. In 1996, after a triumphant three gig appearance at the Liverpool Matthew Street Festival which culminated in a concert at the Royal Court Theatre the band finally broke up. |

Ian
had formed a Beatles tribute band The Mop Tops', Then subsequently
joined the Silver Searchers. He is currently working on a new show
he hopes to take to London's West End. Dave had developed a keen interest
in acting (see Theatre). Mal continued,
eventually joining Liverpool band Helsinki. Phil played with
a number of bands and currently plays with The
Pete Best Band. 'Transition Position' featured some demo versions and live recordings made during the period between the end of The Herbs and the eventual demise of The Green Room. The album is also noteworthy as it contained their swansong 'Memory Lane' a tongue in cheek look at the 1970s fashions and ideas. |
